Eclipses 2020: Illuminate The Shadow & Do The Right Thing
Updated: Jun 5
2020 I celebrate 20 years of studying, practicing, and teaching astrology. This special update covers what you need to know for 2020 summer eclipse series. There are three powerful eclipses in June and July. This article complements my recent You Tube post, and furthers explores possibilities for the 2020 eclipses.
Eclipses are potent times since the Sun, Earth and the Moon are in direct alignment. As an astrologer, I see added both personal and global energetic intensity during eclipse seasons. Eclipses reveal the shadow. We see something during an eclipse we don’t normally see. As symbol, eclipses highlight the good, the bad and the ugly.
Since Moon represents emotion in astrology, and the Sun is a symbol of energy, there is added fuel for emotional intensity during eclipses. Eclipses provide challenges and opportunities to feel a full range of emotions. On a soul level, personally, you may see something about yourself, or learn something about others close to you that you haven't seen before. On a global level, as a society, eclipse seasons support looking at bigger issues that affect us all.
The Full Moon 6/5/2020 and the Full Moon 7/4/2020 are penumbral lunar eclipses. What is a penumbral lunar eclipse? See link below. An annular solar eclipse occurs with the New Moon on Solstice 6/21/2020. The penumbral lunar eclipse on July 4, 2020 activates the stellium of planets in Capricorn. I highlight the themes for each eclipse below along with supportive suggestions.
If an eclipse point specifically aligns with planets in your astrology birth chart, you may feel the effects of the eclipse more personally. Sometimes, the intensity may arise up to 6 months before, or even 6 months after the eclipse event itself. Note your personal birth chart and the area of life that is activated by these eclipses, this is indicated by the astrology houses.
Consult with Kathryn to explore the 2020 eclipses in your astrology chart.
Below are the symbols and themes for the solar and lunar eclipses this 2020 eclipse season.
Lunar Eclipse JUNE 5, 2:12 PM EST
The Full Moon 6/5/2020 is at 15 degrees, Sagittarius.
Are you a Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces? The mutable zodiac signs are highlighted for this eclipse. In astrology, the mutable zodiac signs occur at the end of each season. If your birthday is the first week of the month, you will feel the emotional energy of this eclipse even stronger.
The mutable signs of the zodiac represent the ability to stay flexible. If you have strong mutable energy in your birth chart you are the one who has the gift of adapting quickly. The challenge for the mutable signs is the ability to stand your ground.

Solar Eclipse June 21, 2020 Astrology:
While New Moon is generally a time to start something new, many planet patterns this month suggest slowing down. This eclipse falls during a Mercury Retrograde in Cancer. This Mercury Retrograde article, written at the end of 2019, offers a supportive suggestion to have a ‘stay - cation’ in Summer 2020! Find details on 2020 Mercury Retrogrades, full article HERE.
The solar eclipse on Solstice is during the end of the 40 day Venus Retrograde cycle in Gemini. Venus in retrograde is a reminder on all matters of the heart. Venus in Gemini brings an added theme on connections and communications. What stories are you hearing these days, and what stories do you tell yourself. Be discerning with information.

Retrograde planets are the "as above, so below" reminders for reversal, renewal, or reconsideration. Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto are also retrograde in the current sky story. These are all symbols to retract or retreat. Stay steady this Summer. This is not a time to push the river. Find healthy strategies to empower yourself, at home!
JULY 4, 11:44 PM EST Lunar Eclipse 13 degrees Capricorn
The Lunar eclipse on 7/4/2020 is a penumbral lunar eclipse.
At Full Moon, the Sun and the Moon are always opposite each other in the sky story. Sun is in the zodiac sign of Cancer, while the lunar eclipse is in Capricorn. The eclipse on Independence day further activates the all the cardinal astrology signs: Cancer, Capricorn, Aries & Libra. The Full Moon joins a stellium with Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn all in cautious Capricorn.
Capricorn is the sign of rules, authority, governments and law. In modern astrology, Capricorn reminds us of all the correct ways to empower ourselves. Consider or contemplate during this time personal freedom with an activation to your inner authority.
The July 4 Lunar eclipse falls on the birthday for the USA, Independence Day! There is a symbolic theme on idealism and freedom along with how to respect the rules, and government. Passion planet Mars has moved now from passive Pisces to the assertive sign of Aries. Mars remains in war-like Aries from June 27 through January 6, 2021. Mars travels through it’s home sign of Aries longer than usual this year due to the Mars Retrograde starting on September 9, 2020. More the Mars Retrograde 2020 HERE.
July 4, 2020 Lunar Eclipse Highlights
What does it mean to follow the rules
How can I be responsible, both personally and in my community
What further steps can I take to nurture myself and others responsibly
July 4, 2020 Astrology
This lunar eclipse holds a big theme: do the right thing! Since eclipsed Moon meets three other planets in Capricorn, the emphasis is on a broader picture. What is the right thing to do, for my community, my nation, my planet?
Since the eclipse falls on the “birthday” of the USA , this lunar eclipse can illuminate the shadow of how as a society we do the right thing, or not.
As I mentioned earlier, some eclipse energy is experienced 6 months ahead or after the eclipse event itself. I imagine some of the events we see during June and July may repeat or be reflected around the USA election cycle in November. Time will tell!
In the meantime, stay steady, stay safe, and do the right thing!
